The exact date of Mary Magdalene’s birth and death are unknown but, according to the four gospels, she travelled with Jesus as one of his followers and was a witness to His crucifixion and resurrection.
After the death of Jesus, legend says she remained among the early Christians. Over a decade later, she was put into a boat by Jews, along with several other saints of the early Church, and set adrift without sails or oars. The boat landed in the south of France, where she spent her remaining years living in solitude, in a cave.
She is known as the “apostle to the apostles”.
